Steps for Taking Exams for Online Courses
Student Responsibilities
- Complete the online course and contact the manager of accreditation services to receive proctor information and agreement.
Mary Quist, Manager of Accreditation Services
Telephone: 1-800-272-8258, Ext. 113
Fax: (703) 742-8471
E-mail: mary@appraisers.org
- Upon receipt of the proctor packet, contact the local chapter representative or, in some cases, the counseling department of a local high school or college and request that a qualified counselor proctor your examination.
- The student and proctor decide on a specific date, time and location to take the examination. Make sure you know who the proctor will be, what room to report to, the parking procedure, whether any monetary fee will be charged for proctoring the exam and any other relevant information.
Note: Any fee charged for proctoring the exam is the student's responsibility.
- Sign and return the original agreement to the ASA National Office with the proctor information at least 14 days before taking the exam. This informs the ASA education coordinator of the proctor's name, address, telephone number and the date the exam will be taken.
Note: The ASA National Office requires that students give at least 14 days notice to ensure that the proctor receives the examination before the exam date.
- Take the examination on the date and time scheduled.
- Complete the examination and the survey and evaluation form and turn them in to the proctor to forward to the ASA National Office for processing and grading.
Important: If you must change your scheduled exam date, notify the assigned proctor and the ASA education coordinator immediately so a new testing date can be established.
Proctor Responsibilities
Note: This information will be sent to the proctor by the ASA National Office.
- Upon contact by student, discuss the student's request to proctor the examination and agree to proctor it.
- Select a mutually acceptable date and time for the examination and inform the student of any proctoring fees.
- Provide the student with your complete mailing address and telephone number to forward to the ASA National Office.
- Inspect the examination packet when it arrives from the ASA National Office to ensure that it includes all of the required materials: the objective examination and Scantron answer sheet, a letter of confidentiality and an ASA-addressed, stamped envelope.
- Read and sign the letter of confidentiality.
- Meet the student at the appointed time and place for the examination; proctor the examination; collect all materials and return them immediately, with the letter of confidentiality, to the education coordinator in the ASA-addressed, stamped envelope provided in the exam packet.
