Catalog Description
Do you want to know what research-based reading instruction really is? Do you want to know how literacy research can contribute to your classroom? This course will focus on exploring the most current research in literacy studies. Students will listen to podcasts with researchers of such topics as: content area reading, reading and writing with technology, preschool writers, literacy instruction for English Language Learners, comprehension instruction, literacy assessment, and spelling instruction. Students will discuss these podcasts and related research. Students will culminate the course by identifying a topic of interest, reading pertinent research, reporting findings to classmates, and discussing the findings.
