This online master of education degree in learning and instruction with a business & marketing education focus is an innovative 33-hour program that is delivered completely online. The program is designed for:
- Teachers with business and/or marketing certification who want to earn a master’s degree;
- Teachers with certification in another area who want to gain certification in business and/or marketing education while earning a master’s degree;
- Entrepreneurs and business school graduates who want to learn the competencies needed to be a business or marketing teacher, while earning a master’s degree in education. *
* Focus area coursework for the online M.Ed. program of study covers most of the secondary methods and techniques competencies for business and marketing education Temporary Authorization Certification. Additional coursework and professional experience may be required. Students should consult the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for details regarding Temporary Authorization Certification requirements.
Business & Marketing Education focus courses
The 12-hour business & marketing education focus includes coursework applicable to all career and technical education disciplines as well as courses specific to business and marketing education. The focus area will provide students with skills and knowledge applicable to both the business classroom and the marketing classroom. Individuals who already have a background in the discipline will be able to improve their knowledge and practice of business and marketing education concepts while obtaining an advanced degree. The focus area courses require students to engage in extensive reading, writing and online discussion (NOT real-time chat room discussion), as well as providing practical strategies and techniques to implement in the classroom.
Core requirement course work
The 21 hours of core course work in this program include study in learning theory, instructional technology, instructional leadership, instructional strategies, measurement and assessment, and research. These courses are designed to enhance the process of teaching and learning in the high school or post-secondary classroom.
Capstone comprehensive project
Master of Education candidates with a business and marketing education focus must compile a portfolio containing material developed throughout the program of study and complete a capstone project that is a summation of all coursework at the end of the degree program. The portfolio must contain at least one artifact (completed project, paper, lesson plan, etc.) from EACH class that a student completes. The candidate must be enrolled at the University during the semester in which the master's terminal project is completed. Detailed information about the portfolio and terminal project will be provided to applicants who have been accepted into the program prior to the start of coursework.
Students may start the program as either post-baccalaureate (formerly non-degree-seeking) or degree-seeking.
