Grading Options

Letter grade

Most courses are graded on an A-F scale. A letter grade (A, B, C, D, F ranges) will be reported to the Registrar’s Office for each student.

S/U option

A few courses are only graded on an S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) basis. If a student is enrolled in a course on a Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory (S/U) basis he/she will receive a grade of "S" if the grade earned is "C-" or better and a grade of "U" is the grade earned is a "D" or "F". Credit hours are earned for courses completed with an "S" but not for courses completed with a grade of "U".

Under specified conditions students may choose to be graded on an S/U basis in an A-F courses, but not vice versa. If a student wants to enroll in a course on an S/U basis he/she must decide to do so early in the semester and must first have the approval of his/her academic unit.

Audit/Hearer

Enrolling in a course for audit/hearer requires that students attend class regularly and complete requirements as stipulated by the instructor. An audited course will appear on a student's permanent record, but no course credit toward a degree is awarded. The fees for audit registration are the same as credit registration.
